The Internet is a Very Unsafe Environment
Consider it a war zone. Your computer is under constant
attack from spyware, hackers, viruses, chain letters, hoaxes,
spam and yourself in some cases. Don't let them win. Let me
give you your big stick to fight them off.
The following pages are a small report that should
educate the average computer user as well as the new computer
user.
What internet access should you get? How much should it
cost? What does tech support have to offer. What is spyware?
Who makes spyware? Who are hackers? Why do they do what they
do? What is a virus? Are they natural like viruses people
get? Why is a chain letter so dangerous? Why is spam so
annoying and why it can't be stopped? All these answers and
more inside.

A few basic terms that will be used are:
Hardware -- Any piece of equipment that is associated
with a computer that you can physically touch. Example: mouse,
keyboard, monitor, etc.
Software -- Any computer program saved on any type of
media. Example: games, antivirus, etc.
Media -- Any type of storage for software. Example:
CD's DVD's, Hard drives, etc.
IP Address -- Every computer connected to the internet
gets an IP address. The address is divided by periods in four
parts. Just as an example, think of it as a country, state,
city, and street, although it has nothing to do with your
location in the world. Ex: 192.168.255.3
